Snow Globe

When I found you replacing the wedding photos

With cheap prints of landmarks lacking sentimental value

It felt like the lid on a casket being closed

A marriage laid to rest

I had been visiting our house every week,

Opening the drawer with the snow globe containing our history

Flipping it upside down, and admiring how peaceful it seemed inside

When guests first come through our door they see

The two of us

Smiles slightly parted, eyes locked

Set carefully in gilded frames

I remember hanging that picture

Determined to make it real

Enough for you to let your guard down

Like it was when we were kids

Exit disguised as an entrance

The whole time
