The Christmas Star
A brilliant point of light
Is how astronomers described it
A rare celestial event
Viewed by generations so long ago
Their kin can’t remember their names
Cars lined the breakwater
Headlights off so our eyes could adjust
There it burned
Briefly after sunset but soon
was swallowed up by greedier stars
More dependable, committed to their routines
That’s how it felt
The news of your Complete Response
Like a brilliant point of light
That was soon swallowed up by
Greedier, more routine appointments
Three Month Scans, and MRIs and follow ups in between
We saw it though didn’t we?
Everyone bundled apart from their eyes
That poked out of knitted scarves and wooly hats
Elbows locked and heads tilted upward
Separate, sparkling, distinct
In the Southwest facing sky
It won’t be news generations from now
But that night we witnessed a miracle
I know we did
