spring

Outside cars slashed

Puddles collected beneath the window

met the smell of wet earth waking up

Lilacs, magnolias, daffodils shook

Raindrops off the smalls of their backs

This morning in the park

Hunger bloomed enough

For a bird to discard its shell

Despite all this new life

Ready for audience

I ask please

Can’t we just stay in bed

Bodies pressed so close

It’s not clear who made

What sound

Open your mouth around

The nape of my neck

Where my ear can feel

The heat from your voice

Spring will still be here tomorrow
